Breast
Modifications
 Breast Augmentation:
One of the most
common procedures in cosmetic plastic surgery, breast augmentation is a
procedure that enhances the size and shape of a woman's breast. The
surgery is performed by inserting an implant above the breast muscle or
behind the breast tissue. Saline and silicone implants come in an array
of shapes and sizes, with varying designs. The shape, volume and profile
of the implants are selected based on the individual’s enhancement
goals. The surgery is popular among women who want to increase the size
and profile of a smaller bust line. It may also be used to create the
appearance of a normal breast that has been disfigured due to trauma,
mastectomy, or congenital abnormalities. Breast augmentation can help
women who have a lack of breast symmetry, or to restore breasts to a
pre-pregnancy look and shape (this may also require a breast lift to
treat sagging tissue).
Incisions can be made in one of four places: under the breast, around
the nipple, in the armpit, or in the navel area (known as a
transumbilical incision). Breast augmentation is frequently performed in
an outpatient surgical centers, however all GSN procedures are performed
in JCI Standard Hospitals, using either local or general
anesthesia. Surgery duration is typically one to three hours.
Breast
Lift:
Known as mastopexy, breast lift surgery is a procedure that raises and
reshapes drooping breasts.
A breast lift can be done with or without the
insertion of breast implants, depending on the needs of the patient. The
procedure can also reduce the size of the dark skin surrounding the
nipple, called the areola. In a breast lift, incisions outline the area
of skin to be removed and the new nipple position. The skin above the
nipple is pulled down to help reshape the breast. Finally, sutures close
the incisions and give the breast its new shape and contour.
Patients can expect higher and firmer breasts after surgery, with
sutures located around the areola and in the crease under the breast.
The amount of lift needed will determine the length and number of
incisions during surgery. The procedure can be performed under local or
general anesthesia, in a qualified hospital. The surgery lasts two to
three-and-a-half hours.
After surgery the breasts will be sore, bruised and swollen. Patients
are required to wear bandages or a surgical bra for several days.
Stitches are gradually removed within 7-14 days after the breast lift.
Doctors advise against heavy lifting or straining after such a surgery
as this can cause swelling and increased pressure. Most people may
return to work within a week, and resume full activities within a month.
Breast Reduction:
Women with very large and heavy breasts often experience a variety of
medical issues caused by the excessive weight. Problems include
recurring back and neck pain, skin irritation and even breathing
problems. Breast reduction can help women have smaller, more
body-proportionate breasts and minimize such problems. The surgery
removes glandular tissue and excess fat and skin from the breasts,
resulting in a smaller, lighter bust.
During surgery, the
nipple and areola are typically moved to a higher position on the
breast. The flaps of skin that were once above the nipple are
re-positioned around and beneath the breast and sutured into place.
After the procedure, patients are asked to wear bandages for two to ten
days, during which time strenuous activities should be kept to a
minimum.
The surgeon
generally removes the stitches two to three weeks later. Although most
of the bruising and swelling will fade in the first few weeks, it may
take six months to a year before the breasts fully heal and settle into
their new shape. Their final shape may change in response to weight
changes, hormonal shifts and pregnancy. Breast reduction is performed
under general anesthesia in a qualified Hospital.

Modern
Hospitals & High Standards of Care
Many of
Costs Rica's surgeons have opened their own clinics to avoid having to
pay high surgical fees to the Hospitals. Thousands of people a year
visit these clinics and experience great outcomes, however Surgical Travels will NEVER use a clinic for a procedures where general
anesthesia is used. These procedures are more complex, and there is more
rick involved... and GSN clients will only work with JCI accredited
Hospitals.
International hospitals
are staffed with fully certified bilingual surgeons that cater to
foreigners seeking superior medical care.
